Arkansas beats Mississippi State 9-2 at SEC Tournament

Chad Spanberger cleared that second wall twice, and almost did it a third time in No. 4-seed Arkansas' 12-0 run-ruling of No. 8-seed Auburn in an SEC Tournament elimination game.

The Tigers' record in SEC title championship games under Mainieri is 6-0.LSU won the SEC regular season and tournament titles in the same season for just the second time with Mainieri as coach.

Greg Deichmann homered twice and Tigers ace Jared Poche' (10-3) picked up his 37th career victory. Arkansas advances to face top-seed Florida on Saturday.

The Hogs hit four home runs in the game, two by red-hot Chad Spanberger and one each by Eric Cole and Dominic Fletcher.

Arkansas made things interesting in the ninth inning when Koch reached on a walk and Evan Lee reached on a hit by pitch.

Auburn coach Butch Thompson prevented Spanberger from getting a chance at a fourth home run. Sophomore Jax Biggers turned in his third multi-hit game of the tournament after going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Spanberger now has 19 home runs on the year, tied for second in the conference and just two behind overall leader Brent Rooker from Mississippi State.

In the Razorbacks' four games of the SEC Tournament, Spanberger has eight hits, eight runs scored, 10 RBIs, three doubles, five home runs, and 26 total bases. "All in all, I thought it helped us prepare for our next phase".

Walker (7-1) left with two outs in the eighth inning having allowed one run in 16 2/3 innings against the Razorbacks this season. Over his last seven games, Spanberger is 10-for-27 (.370), with all of his hits going for extra bases.

Spanberger's prodigious home runs have been the rage in Hoover this week. In the postgame, Mainieri said that it was the first time he could remember in his 35 years of coaching baseball that he had ever chose to just put the game-winning run on base instead of pitching to him.

The first baseman continued his historic day and bombed a grand slam to right center, to make the score 8-0 in favor of the Razorbacks.

Arkansas' two run-rule victories over Auburn (May 25), Florida (May 27) are its only run-rule victories in its tournament history.
