The 16 NCAA Tournament Regional host sites were announced on Sunday evening, and even though there are three West Coast Regionals this year, Arizona can only be in one of them, and that's Long Beach. The other three teams that will make their way to Lexington will be announced Monday at noon during the NCAA Baseball Championship Selection Show.
Two schools are hosting for the 20th time or more, as Florida State leads the list of schools with 34 and LSU with 25. By virtue of being awarded a regional, all 16 host institutions have also been selected to the 64-team field.
With Sunday's announcement, Texas Tech has been chosen as an NCAA Regional host for the fifth time and second time in program history to be selected in back-to-back season. It's the first time the Wildcats have hosted a regional since 2006. Competition in the regional will begin on Friday.
Season ticket holders and Red Raider Club members have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to request all-session tickets to the regional, according to a Texas Tech press release. Among them are automatic qualifiers Houston, Rice (Conference USA), Sam Houston State (Southland), Texas Southern (Southwestern Athletic) and Dallas Baptist (Missouri Valley). Each regional will feature four teams in a double-elimination format. Coverage of the tournament selection will start at 9 a.m. PT Monday on ESPN2.
