Drug haul case: Thane court declares Mamta Kulkarni, Vicky Goswami as absconders

In April 2016, Thane crime branch raided the Solapur unit of Avon Lifesciences and seized Ephedrine that produces the party drug methamphetamine worth 2500 crores.

In simple terms, the duo can be arrested from anywhere in India within one month and that too by any agency. The court is likely to attach the two properties of Kulkarni located in Andheri and will issue Red Corner Notice (RCN) against the duo in the next hearing. "The immovable properties belonging to the accused be attached", special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court judge H M Patwardhan said in the order. In January this year, Vicky Goswami was extradited from Kenya to United States of America by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on charges of dealing with drugs.

Vicky Goswami is known to be an worldwide drug lord.

"The court noticed that the accused are proclaimed offenders and declared them as an absconding accused in the case", said Shishir Hiray, Special Public prosecutor.

"It is pronounced and declared that accused Vicky Goswami and Mamta Kulkarni are proclaimed offenders". Reportedly Mamta would regularly visit her then boyfriend at the said Dubai jail, and she married him while he was in the jail. This was followed by them busting a major drugs racket and unearthing over a staggering 18.5 tonne of ephedrine, that amounted to a whopping Rs. 2,000 crore at an 'Avon Pharma Life Sciences Private Limited's factory in Solapur. He was a bootlegger hailing from Ahmedabad who landed up in Mumbai and met his Bollywood sweetheart, Mamta Kulkarni. While on March 27, 2017, Non bailable warrant was issued by the Thane sessions court against Kulkarni and the worldwide drug lord, Vicky Goswami.

Earlier, Kulkarni's lawyers had denied all allegations against her but with the court's recent verdict, it seems impossible for her to get vindicated.
