Katy Perry makes Twitter history with 100M followers

The second most-followed on Twitter is Justin Bieber, who now boasts 96.7 million followers, and right behind them are Barack Obama (90.8 million), Taylor Swift (85.1 million) and Rihanna (74.1 million).

According to CNBC, as many as 48 million Twitter accounts could be fake. That's a 10 percent increase from what the CEO initially claimed.

"Twitter has verified that Katy does indeed have 100 million followers". At that point, she reached 94.5 million followers.

The milestone moves Perry's Twitter following past Justin Bieber's 96.7 million followers and Barack Obama's 90.8 million and comes just days after the release of her most recent album, "Witness", Billboard noted.

Over the years, the songwriter has graced the social media platform with sweet - and sassy! - tweets. The tour is scheduled to begin in the U.S.in September, and the United Kingdom tour will be the concluding leg of the show. Katy Perry's former arch rival Taylor Swift is not too far behind with an impressive 85 million followers.
