Information from the Associated Press were used in this report. The Metropolitan Police Department said Jonathan Solomon, a 24-year-old from SC, was arrested and charged with "attending or kindling bonfires".

Darwin Martinez Torres, 22, is now being held on a second-degree murder charge.

Arab, Muslim, Black, Latino, Asian, women's, faith-based, and other organizations from across Chicagoland are mobilizing hundreds of people for this vigil, and are also demanding that Virginia authorities, who are claiming that the murder was a "road rage" incident, investigate it as a hate crime.

The mourners included a large number of non-Muslim sympathisers and friends as well.

The chief wants anyone with evidence that Hassanen's killing was motivated by hate to come forward.

Hassanen went missing earlier in the day Sunday after she and her friends left a mosque, according to police.

Authorities said that after the attack, Torres took Nabra in his vehicle to a nearby area and continued assaulting her then threw her in a pond where her body was later found.

Majid continued to comfort the victim's mother by telling her that a person who dies under such circumstances is guaranteed a place in paradise.

Rizwan Jaka, spokesman for the ADAMS Center in Sterling, said he expected anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 people to attend the funeral services for Nabra Hassanen.

Lamia Sarver of McLean said the tragedy hits home because she has a daughter Nabra's age.

Because girls in the group were wearing traditional Muslim dress, there was early speculation that the attack may have been a hate crime.

"'Pray at home, ' I tell her", she said.

The 17-year-old attended the ADAMS youth camp every spring and volunteered at Dulles Airport in DC at the start of President Trump's Muslim travel ban.

More than 5,000 people attended Hassanen's funeral Wednesday in suburban Washington, grinding traffic to a halt and forcing attendees to walk more than a mile to join the overflow crowd at All Dulles Area Muslim Society, one of the nation's largest mosques.

Police said that moments after the altercation, he attacked the group with a baseball bat, beating Nabra to death.
