Flash flood watch issued for Livingston, other counties

South central Rowan County in the Piedmont of North Carolina.* Until 100 AM EDT* At 1059 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms.

A flash flood warning has been issued for the Chicago area until early Wednesday morning as rain pounds down on northern IL and northwest IN, according to the National Weather Service.

The Watch goes into effect at 5 p.m. and is expected to stay in place through tomorrow morning.

But the Weather Service said flash flooding is possible in any large urban area in southern Wisconsin as the severe storms move through.

Almost half of the counties in the Lower Peninsula - 33 counties stretching across the southern half - are now under a flood watch.

Even though water has started to recede in some areas, high water levels and saturated ground conditions will quickly lead to renewed flooding and life threatening situations. Rainfall rates of 1 to inches per hour are likely with thunderstorm activity.

The weather service has also issued a Flood Warning for the Fox River at Montgomery.
