Hegazi at fault as West Brom denied by Stoke in Premier League

Substitute Peter Crouch took advantage of a bad defensive mix-up to earn Stoke a 1-1 Premier League draw at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

In the same fixture last season, the Baggies beat Stoke 1-0 at the Hawthorns. "All I want to do is play, especially when you're fit and not playing, that's the worst thing".

The game livened up in its final quarter, with Rodriguez looping a header on to the top of the bar and Hegazi having a close-range header tipped over.

Mark Hughes' Stoke side, who headed to the West Midlands on the back of a fine 1-0 home win at Arsenal, dominated the possession statistics, but were struggling to create any chances whatsoever, but they almost took the lead on the 24th minute as a speculative 25-yard strike from on-loan defender Kurt Zouma deflected off Gareth Barry, who was making his 630th Premier League appearance, which sees him only two behind record holder Ryan Giggs, but with the ball dipping below Ben Foster's crossbar the English goalkeeper managed to get his fingertips to the ball, and tip it over for a corner. When given a choice to watch West Brom take on Stoke, or Chelsea hosting Everton, most neutrals would opt for the latter.

Allan Nyom whipped a cross into the area from the West Brom right and after the ball bounced inside the six-yard box, Rodriguez threw himself in front of Zouma at the back post to head the ball past Jack Butland.

But defender Ahmed Hegazi inexplicably swiped at a ball goalkeeper Ben Foster had come to claim and Crouch, not long off the bench, stooped to gleefully nod into an open net with 13 minutes remaining.
