KU tied for 115th overall among public and private universities in the rankings, up three places from last year's rankings.

UNL had checked in among the top 50 public universities for five straight years, from 2012 to 2016.

Compared to other public schools around the country, Penn State was ranked 14th while the University of Pittsburgh came in at No. 24.

The top public schools were University of California - Berkeley, University of California - Los Angeles, and University of Virginia.

The UI is now ranked 78th in the "Best National Universities" category, which contains 300 US public, private, and for-profit institutions.

BJU provides over 100 undergraduate and graduate programs in religion, education, fine arts and communication, arts and science, and business.

For the 13th consecutive year, Western Illinois University has been recognized as a "Best Midwestern University" by U.S.News and World Report. It ranked 18 as a regional "best value school". That represents a two-spot climb for RU.

The University of SC ranked No. 1 in global business programs. The university was No. 3 in the nation for graduating Pell Grant recipients at higher-than-predicted rates, and No. 10 in the nation by the same measure for first-generation students. According to U.S. News, the rankings are determined by first dividing colleges into categories and collecting data from the college on as many as 15 indicators of academic excellence.

Clemson University is ranked 23rd among the top public universities, the 10th year it has ranked among the top 25 public schools.

The University's president questions some of the assumptions of the US News ranking. In "Payback Picture" rankings for National Liberal Arts Colleges, U.S. News & World Report lists LSU of Alexandria among the schools whose students finish college with the least amount of debt.

The national recognition HPU has received for preparing students for the world as it is going to be is evident in the success of graduates.

UB's rise the rankings this year is due to its improvement in several of the ranking metrics used by U.S. News, including UB's reputation ranking among the university's peers, an increase in SAT scores, an increase in the number of classes under 20 students and improving its graduation rate.

"The majority of our students will be the first in their families to graduate from college, and many will do so while working one or more jobs to help support themselves and their loved ones", Leland said.
