Two arrested in Banihal terror attack, snatched weapons recovered

Banihal/Jammu: Two "terrorists" involved in the deadly terror attack on the SSB party in Banihal belt two days ago have been arrested, the police said on Friday.

A police official told Rising Kashmir that, "The two militants have been identified as Gazanfer and Arif".

The arrested duo, he said, have told police that the pistol with which they had attacked the SSB men was lying with Aqib.

One forces personnel was killed and another injured in Banihal.

Head constable Ram Pravesh and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Shyam Sood were attacked while they were manning a post outside an 8.5 km-long under-construction tunnel connecting Banihal town of Ramban district in Jammu province with Kulgam district's Qazigund, the gateway to the Kashmir Valley.

One of their accomplices is, however, absconding and manhunt has been launched to nab him. Sources own police said that the arrested youths appeared to have been motivated by the militants in adjoining South Kashmir to join the militant ranks and carry out the terror attack.

"J&K Police assisted by the Army and other para-military forces foiled an attempt to revive militancy in the region", said the IGP and added, "We are investigating the matter that to which outfit they joined or whether had to join". "As of now, we can only say that they were radicalised. probably even through cyberspace", he said in response to a query. "The two snatched weapons have also been recovered". They snatched two weapons from the SSB personnel before fleeing. A case has been registered and investigation started, the police said.
