England suspends Stokes, Hales

Posted October 01, 2017

Stokes, the England Test vice-captain, and his team-mate Alex Hales were suspended indefinitely by the European Central Bank on Thursday, after video footage emerged via The Sun newspaper that allegedly showed Stokes throwing punches in a fight outside a nightclub in Bristol.

Stokes was one of the positives for England when they toured Australia last as he notched a century in the third Test in Perth and also picked a eight-wicket haul in the final Test in Sydney. If he [Stokes] is not there we are going to have to play well.

Morgan claims Stokes-who reportedly broke his hand in the altercation-told his mates, "The guy had a bottle in his hand and was threatening us-was I supposed to wait until he smashed it in my face?" "It'd be great to have him out there but we'll see what happens".

And although Bairstow has full faith on his side's batsmen, he admitted that they need to learn quickly as they plan for Australia not even knowing if Stokes would be on the plane.

A 27-year old was taken to the hospital with facial injuries.

He told a press conference after the West Indies ODI series: "It's something I've been working on and I'm looking forward to it".

It means he will travel to Australia at the end of next month in buoyant mood. I'm very, very excited. When you are a young player you're thinking you'd love to be on that tour.

"I never thought I would be on a tour like this". Hopefully I can learn from what they did and use that as well.

Things just keep getting worse for the English all-rounder.

It's a challenge he would relish.

"I'd be very comfortable". "I feel when you get in it's a good place to bat".

Mum Debra, 55, said: "I don't want to see the video because I will go insane".

That prospect does not faze him though. "I think the culture of self-governing within the dressing room has really aided this England team, certainly from the little I have experienced of it‚" he said.

"Hopefully they'll get exhausted doing it [bowling the bouncer]". There's plenty of bounce and the ball doesn't swing as much.

"If selection doesn't go your way, you have to bide your time and take the chance when it comes".

"We're very fortunate to have all-rounders in those positions, whether that be in one-day cricket, T20 cricket or Test cricket", Bairstow added.
