She said the collaboration between Cisco and Google will help enterprises extend existing on-premise systems with services running on Google Cloud, which are able to communicate using modern APIs (application programming interfaces).

Poonen took to Twitter Wednesday to call the Cisco-Google partnership "clear validation of VMware Hybrid Cloud vision 1yr ago", adding, "glad to see others embrace same vision".

Google and Cisco today announced a new partnership around helping their customers build more efficient hybrid cloud solutions.

Cisco technology is already on-premises for many businesses, and this partnership ensures that Google's cloud service portfolio can reach and easily be used by all of them.

California-based Cisco is one of the largest makers of internet network equipment, making hardware for a range of industries ranging from telecoms to connected devices.

Cisco, which in May announced job cuts, announced this week it cut a deal to buy USA cloud communications firm BroadSoft for an overall purchase price of approximately $1.9 billion. "This is what we hear customers asking for", said Diane Greene, CEO, Google Cloud.

The Cisco and Google Cloud hybrid cloud offerings, which will become available in the second half of 2018, opens the door for developers to combine emerging Google Cloud services with Cisco on-premises networking, hyper-converged, and security offerings. In much the same way, the new software would help Cisco sell more of its hyperconverged products, while Google could sell more cloud-computing services.

"At the heart of this architecture are open source platforms, Kubernetes and Istio", Google's Boden wrote.

This solution will allow customer apps to be located within on-premise environments, but it can also be expanded out onto the Google Cloud Platform.

Customers will be able to develop new applications in the cloud or on-premise using the same developer tools, runtime and production environments when the partnership goes live. Dell's unit, Pivotal, makes it easier for companies to get started developing software, acting like an operating system for the cloud. "Google's Apigee API management platform allows developers to quickly and more securely access legacy systems without all the complexity". "They understand what large companies want and need".

"Our partnership with Google gives our customers the very best cloud has to offer-agility and scale, coupled with enterprise-class security and support", said Chuck Robbins, CEO of Cisco, in the release.

Customers will be able to use the Cisco Private Cloud Infrastructure to deploy and manage container clusters powered by Kubernetes. "Kubernetes is about seeding the industry with open source standards for application development and operations that aim to disintermediate workloads from a specific IaaS provider". "A dramatic expansion of the services available in the major public clouds, a heightened focus by cloud platform suppliers on enterprise customers, and major improvements in performance and security have driven the growth in public cloud adoption".
