Google Maps and Search will soon tell you wait times at restaurants

Posted November 08, 2017

The feature is rolling out to Search - and soon to Maps as well, will show you the wait times at almost a million sit-down restaurants around the world.

If weird food trends (cronut, anyone?) have taught us anything it's that people are prepared to wait a long time for a seat at a restaurant, so whether you're visiting a popular local eatery or Time Out's latest gastro-pick, you're faced with two choices.

After typing a restaurant's name, access the Wait Times feature by opening the listing and clicking on the hour bars for more estimates.

The wait times will be granular as well, you can see the current wait times, or if you want to visit later you can get an estimate of how long the wait time will be at that time.

Wait times will initially be available for mobile and desktop search before becoming a Google Maps feature. Rather, they will be estimated wait times based on anonymized data from other Google users. Moreover, summaries of each day's wait times can be pulled up by scrolling through the results.
