Media Res will produce the series for Apple, with founder Michael Ellenberg billed as an executive producer.
Apple has announced a major scripted series, winning a bidding war for an untitled drama starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston. The show is based on the book "Top of the Morning" by CNN reporter Brian Stelter.More news: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Direct Shows New Trailer, Gameplay
In September, Witherspoon told People she and Aniston were having "so much fun brainstorming and laughing and sending each other emails" about the series. Jay Carson ("House of Cards") is writing the pilot and will serve as showrunner.
Aniston and Witherspoon's series will offer an inside look at the lives of morning talk show hosts and the drama and challenges they face. And the project will mark the big return to television of Ms. Aniston, the former "Friends" star.
Since leaving his position as head of drama at HBO, Ellenberg has focused on development and has teamed with Bron Studios to launch Media Res. It's unclear if Apple will make the shows available by iTunes or another platform, and whether access will be based on a subscription or advertising-based model. Premiere dates for Amazing Stories and the morning news show have not yet been determined. Witherspoon, who has been active on the development side, won an Oscar for her role in Walk the Line and also scored a nomination for Wild.
