Jude Law in Talks to Join Brie Larson in 'Captain Marvel'

Posted November 23, 2017

We don't know who he's playing yet or anything (though Variety says he'll be a "mentor of sorts" who helps Carol work through her newly-established powers), but let's set that aside for a moment to acknowledge how truly excellent this film's cast is gonna be. That trend continues now with the addition of Jude Law, who has apparently just landed the male lead opposite Brie Larson in Captain Marvel. Well it sounds like the film is going full-on Ant-Man, as Law will be filling the role of Doctor Walter Lawson, otherwise known as Mar-Vell-the first Captain Marvel.

Brie has signed on to play Marvel feminist icon Carol Danvers in the feature, who had an Easter Egg cameo in Doctor Strange.

Larson is playing Carol Danvers, a skilled test pilot whose DNA is melded with that of Kree warrior Mar-Vell.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson) are directing Captain Marvel for release on March 8, 2019. Ben Mendelsohn had previously been mentioned as only in-talks to play the film's lead, but the Variety story seems to confirm that Mendelsohn is officially on board now.

Marvel star Samuel L. Jackson is also expected to appear in the film to reprise his role as Nick Fury along with Larson and (possibly) Law. One thing we know for sure: the film is going to be a bit of a prequel for the MCU, set almost 20 years before the events of the original 2008 Iron Man.

So, what do you think of the Jude Law Captain Marvel casting?
