"The Israeli enemy launched.several surface-to-surface missiles towards a military position", it said, adding there had been "material losses at the site".

The missiles hit an ammunition depot of the Syrian army at 0:30 local time (22:30 GMT on Friday), causing explosions in the area between the towns of Kiswah (Kesweh) and Sahnaya, Arab outlet Al-Masdar News earlier reported citing its sources.

Israeli missiles struck a military position near Damascus overnight and Syria's air defence system thwarted them, Syrian state television said on Saturday. Foreign media reports state the location of the targeted base is Al-Kiswa, about 13 kilometers south of Damascus.

Saturday's report also says that Syrian air defenses shot down two of the Israeli missiles. Israel does not, as a rule, comment on reported strikes in Syria.

Hadashot News reported November 26, that Netanyahu had warned Syrian President Bashar Assad via a third party that Israel would intervene against him in the Syrian civil war if he allowed Iran to establish a military presence in the country.

It is not clear whether the Syrian army or Iranian and Hizballah militias were targeted in the strike. "Arms convoys in particular have been singled out by the Israeli air force".
