2 militants killed in Shopian gunfight

Speaking to ANI, the Kashmir IG said that two jawans also got injured during the course of the operation.

Two forces personnel, who included one armyman from 44 RR and a police personnel of Shopian Police, were, as per the spokesman, injured during the encounter.

The encounter continued throughout the night after the 44RR, 14 Bn of CRPF and SOG cordoned off the area after inputs about presence of three militants in Batmuran.

The militants opened fire on the security forces following which an encounter ensued that led to the killing of two terrorists.

Shopian: A 24-year-old woman died after allegedly being shot during a clash between security forces and villagers in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. Another foreign militant was identified as Ali @Qari and from their possession two AK rifles and other ammunition was recovered.

Officials said that three militants were reportedly hiding in the house.

At least 210 militants have been killed this year - the most since 2010 - amid a military campaign to rout armed groups resisting Indian rule in the divided Himalayan region.

According to hospital sources in Shopian, one woman, identified as Rubi Jan, was declared dead in the hospital.

The trapped militants tried to escape while firing their guns but soldiers retaliated, leading to a prolonged clash.

A woman was injured during the exchange of fire and she succumbed to her injuries later on. "We request people not to come out as the area is still not cleared". "A lady with a bullet injury in her abdomen was brought to our hospital who was referred to SMHS hospital in a critical condition, " he added. The man had been caught in the cross-fire during an anti-terror operation, the army said.
