Indore T20I: Lanka win toss, ask `unchanged` India to bat first

Posted December 23, 2017

KL Rahul was dismissed for 89 and MS Dhoni also chipped in with a few big hits to take India to their highest T20 worldwide total of 260 runs, which is incidentally the joint second highest ever. KL Rahul gets lifeline as Samarawickrama drops his catch at backward point at 6 runs. In his first series as India captain, however, he has reached a different level as a batsman, scoring runs in commanding fashion against a hapless Sri Lanka side.

Rohit scored 118 runs off only 43 balls and hit 12 fours and 10 massive sixes to dismantle Lankan bowling easily.

Thisara Perera and Nuwan Pradeep picked up two wickets each for Sri Lanka.

Kusal Perera was the only positive for Sri Lanka to feel proud about as he scored a rapid fire 77 runs off only 37 balls and laced his inning with 4 fours and 7 sixes.

MS Dhoni, who was promoted up the order, provided the finishing touches in the first match at Cuttack. Shreyas Iyer, who scored 24 in Cuttack, would also look to get some substantial runs in the absence of Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. It won't be a surprise if they continue to dominate the Lankan batsmen.

In the bowling department, Jaydev Unadkat who performed well in the first game might make way for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while Jasprit Bumrah will spearhead the bowling attack.

The series win here would mean India will remain unbeaten in bilateral series across formats in the year.

There was neither probing length nor the fearsome pace in the Lankan fast bowlers to trouble the Indians.

Once the 109-run second-wicket partnership between Upal Tharanga (47 off 29) was broken by leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (4/52), the Lankans innings fell apart. The match is scheduled to take place at 7 pm IST, while the toss will take place at 6: 30 pm.

The visitors made a couple of changes in their playing XI by bringing in Sadeera Samarawickrama and Chathuranga de Silva.
