Army Chief joins Christmas celebrations at Christ Church, Rawalpindi

The churches are beautifully illuminated with colorful lights and Christians lit candles inside the churches during the mass.

Christmas was celebrated on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir with traditional enthusiasm and religious fervour with members of the small population of Christians in the valley thronging churches for Mass as special prayers were held for world peace.

"Celebrating Christmas in Kashmir is a special occasion as people from across the world visit here during winter and come to churches and celebrate Christmas", said Father Roy of All Saints Catholic Church MA Road in Srinagar.

Christians from all over the country flocked the churches to perform prayers.

The Santa Claus distributed chocolates and candies among the children as the Tourism Department ensured gala Christmas celebrations at ski resort Gulmarg.

The Jammu and Kashmir state tourism department had made some elaborate arrangements for the celebrations of Christmas in Gulmarg.

The entire state is in a festive mood with people celebrating Christmas, the festival of love, joy and brotherhood with full zeal and fervour today.

Shah said the officials of the Tourism department would also attend travel and trade fairs to woo more tourists to Kashmir.

"We prayed for world peace and especially for peace in Kashmir".

"Occasions like Christmas remind us to rekindle the spirit of harmony, brotherhood & lead a virtuous life". No Christian faces any problem here.

Chief Minister Mehbooba took to twitter and greeted people on the eve of Christmas.
