Minimum wage increases are expected to have a "ripple effect" in OH, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, as businesses increase wages for entry level employees, they typically also raise the wages of those in the upper tiers, such as supervisors and managers. That's why the Assembly passed sweeping changes to the state's minimum wage laws to help lift working families up - because far too many people are struggling just to get by.

The hikes are part of a plan to gradually increase the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $15 an hour.

"By moving to a $15 statewide minimum wage and enacting the strongest paid family leave policy in the nation, ny is showing the way forward on economic justice", said Cuomo.

Additionally, it's important to note that increased wages may lead to a stronger economy. The increases were spread out over a few years to give businesses time to adjust. The increase will be phased in over a longer period for workers in the rest of the state. When the wages increase, it makes it "cost effective" for employers to look for alternatives like self-check outs and other automated systems.
