Thomas Lemar and Leon Bailey

Posted January 10, 2018

Spanish newspaper Diariogol says the 29-year-old Croatian midfielder is wanted by a host of clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool made bids for Lemar during the final week of the summer transfer window with the Gunners coming close to clinching a €100m (£90m) deal, only for the move to fall through at the eleventh hour.

One of Liverpool's top January transfer targets, Thomas Lemar, may choose to stay at Monaco this month to protect his World Cup chances.

Liverpool are looking for a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who had his dream move to Barcelona finalised on Saturday, and the Reds are long time admirers of the France worldwide.

Lemar is regarded as one of the most exciting young midfielders to have emerged out of France in recent years, thanks largely due to his exploits for Monaco last season.

Arsene Wenger remains keen on signing the French global but the newspaper says Arsenal will now face competition from Liverpool and Chelsea after the Blues also joined the race for Lemar's signature.

'But the transfer window lasts until the end of the month and many things can happen'.

Monaco, who trail Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain by nine points, have been resistant to the idea of cashing in another of their prized assets during the mid-season window with manager Leonardo Jardim recently insisting his players "understand" the club's position.

Liverpool will reportedly not move for Lemar this month.

Jardim has previously suggested winter departures for key players were unlikely, but he gave a softer response on the matter on Monday, per French daily L'Equipe (h/t the Liverpool Echo's Ian Doyle): "We are not used to selling in the winter".

Philippe Coutinho's arrival at Barcelona could see Ivan Rakitic leave the Camp Nou.
