TCL announces the first soundbar with Roku's voice assistant

Posted January 11, 2018

All models in these lines feature support Dolby's HDR format, Dolby Vision.

Last week Roku announced a new Voice Assistant as part of their new Roku Connect program, which will bring Roku to your smart soundbar and smart speaker.

But you can think of this as Roku's answer to Google Assistant and Alexa, which both allow consumers to control content on their TVs (and often the TVs themselves) if they've got a supported streaming device like a Chromecast or Fire TV, respectively.

The 6-Series will ship in spring 2018 in both 55- and 65-inch sizes.

The Chinese TV manufacturer had a successful year in 2017, releasing several excellent Roku TV models at competitive price points that put the company in the spotlight of a stage that is only getting more and more crowded. "As we continue to innovate, we're able to produce televisions engineered with features that maximize technologies which already exist in our sets like Dolby Vision and the Roku OS to deliver outstanding performance at an incredible value". When connected to a TCL Roku TV, voice controls can be used to turn on the TV. The Roku OS allows it to stream and access to millions of movies and TV shows through a simple user interface.

Journalists who walked out shaking their heads after a woeful Hisense CES press conference which kicked off with a speech in Chinese, were an hour later praising arch rival TCL who are now expanding into audio products with the Alto family. "We envision a broader Roku ecosystem where the TV is the centre of the home entertainment experience making Roku TV even more desirable".

TCL's rise in popularity has been impressive, but not without reason.

These televisions also feature Wide Color Gamut with NBP Photon technology for even more realistic colors, as the latest LED phosphors drive color performance closer to the limits of human vision while targeting the DCI-P3 color space standard in which Hollywood studios create the highest-quality content.

The 6-Series will be available in 55- and 65-inch class models this spring.

As for the 5 Series, it will be replacing the S series of televisions which the company now has.

"The P6 will come in 43", 50", 55" and 65" models topping out at $2,699 AUD for the 65" model, releasing in April 2018.
