Why Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Named Their New Baby Chicago

Posted January 21, 2018

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed their baby girl on January 15, and of course, fans can't stop speculating about the names they may give their new bundle-of-joy.

Kardashian made the initial name announcement on her website, simply sharing the words "Chicago West" along with her daughter's birth statistics.

Keeping (up with) tradition, Kim finally revealed the new baby's name on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, Chicago wasn't on our list, but Star, North's favorite name was. Kimye is living it up in the baby naming department, after all, North West (4) and Saint West (2) are very creative and unique names that totally fit both of their adorable kids.

As with anything Kardashian-West-related (or let's be real, anything in general), plenty of people on the internet had some thoughts about the moniker. After all, they didn't name Baby No. 3 "Calabasas".

Kim's sister Khloé, who is now pregnant with her first child, was quick to praise the name, revealing to her 25 million followers that she "loved" it."I LOOOOOOOOOOVE her name  hey Chi (shy)", the proud auntie said.

TMZ reports that Kanye's hometown is Chicago.

She has since posted more details about her decision not to go through with another high-risk pregnancy, explaining: "Preeclampsia and placenta accreta are high-risk conditions, so when I wanted to have a third baby, doctors said that it wasn't safe for my - or the baby's - health to carry on my own".

She added that her daughter North and son Saint, who she carried herself, are "especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister".
