These rumours fall in line with predictions from noted KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who stated that Apple would launch three iPhones in 2018, out of which one would be a TFT-LCD model, which would be the most affordable iPhone from the group.

The newest consumer study from CIRP reveals that the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus captured almost 61 percent of the total iPhone sales in the U.S. in the fourth quarter, lower than the 72 percent share the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus made up in the same quarter in 2016. From 29 million iPhone X, 7 million units have been shipped to China.

The iPhone X sales reportedly capped off at 29 million in their fourth quarter, according to numbers obtained by Fortune.

There have been a slew of rumors surrounding the idea that Apple plans to discontinue the iPhone X after this year due to disappointing sales. "Additionally, to sell iPhone X at a lower price may have a negative impact on shipments of the new 6.1 LCD iPhone in 2H18".

The design has led some consumers to perceive that there is less usable screen space on the iPhone X than on the larger-body, notch-free iPhone 8 Plus, according to Kuo's analysis, seen by AppleInsider. It would cost between $700 and $800.

The only reason behind Apple to acquire the LCD screens instead of OLED panel is to reduce the actual pricing of this upcoming iPhone.
