Action Express takes Rolex 24 victory as reliability woes end Alonso's hopes

The team of Ryan Briscoe, Richard Westbrook and Scott Dixon won and defeated its sister vehicle, which was the defending class champion.

The trio finished 11th overall, 25 laps behind the race victor which came from the prototype class.

Ryan Briscoe finished 11 seconds up the road from Joey Hand to record the blue oval's second consecutive win at the Daytona 24.

Fellow New Zealander Earl Bamber finished 17th overall, sixth in the GTLM class, nine laps behind Dixon. A representative from the company told The Associated Press that cars are "pushing the limits" of aggressive camber and low tire pressure, possibly causing the consistent issues.

This Rolex 24 was Scott Pruett's swansong. Despite the problems, he held onto the lead, finishing 70 seconds ahead of the #31 Whelen Engineering Racing vehicle.

"From our team's perspective, to come here for our first race and have a shot of winning, I'm really proud of the team and the guys, and all the work that Acura did to get to that point", he said. Gordon, 45, joined A. J. Foyt, Mario Andretti and Jamie McMurray as drivers who have won both the Rolex 24 and the Daytona 500.

"The pace was just incredible", Action Express owner Bob Johnson said.

Scott Pruett completed the final race of his 50-year career. Garcia and Jacobs live close enough that they can go home for a few hours of quiet rest during the race, and then return for its conclusion. The others have to be addressed, Continental said.

The Dutch driver won the pole to give Wayne Taylor Racing high hopes of repeating.

"Based on the issues we had throughout the race and multiple attempts to fix it without a satisfactory result has forced us to withdraw the vehicle from the race for the safety of our drivers", team manager Travis Houge said of the team's inability to defend last year's overall victory.

The rule implies that the vehicle has exceeded the baseline performance that IMSA expected from the entry prior to the race.

The trio headed up a one-two finish for Action Express as the #31 Cadillac shared by ex-F1 driver Felipe Nasr, Mike Conway, Eric Curran and Stuart Middleton recovered from overheating issues in the final two hours to fend off the #54 Core Autosport Oreca, which was left to settle for third place at the chequered flag. Albuquerque and Barbosa also have class victories on their racing résumés.

"Most teams have many years of Rolex and Daytona race experience to help them".

Endurance racing has a different set of demands on a driver, both physically and mentally. "We again didn't make any mistakes by the drivers, the pit stops were fine... we may have had an unscheduled stop for brakes". First 24 hour race win for us.

Penske's cars, on the other hand, did. It was fitting that Dixon was part of the team's 200th victory - he's the longest tenured driver in Ganassi history. "Some drivers want more, some want less, so you're just up there to give them pertinent information, not drive the auto".

"We qualified up front, ran strong the whole day and finished the race", he said. "Everyone thrives on the winning culture of this team". "I don't think it's because of the engine, but the aerokit seems quite inefficient".
