A Chinese New Year feast amounts to more than the sum of its ingredients.

Blizzard has announced that the Lunar New Year event will be returning to Overwatch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC early next month and will be celebrating the Year of the Dog.

"We love any occasion where we can acknowledge the special bond between dogs and their owners", said Joe Dent, chief store operations officer for Pet Valu.

We'll keep you posted on what this new Overwatch event entails.

Outside of a brief trailer released on Twitter, little else is known about the Chinese New Year event.

Last year's event was based on Rooster as it was the Year of Rooster according to the Lunar calendar. The Lunar New Year update is now officially set to arrive next week.

Previously, returning events have indeed brought new content with them, such as the second Halloween event extending the range of event-themed skins, but there is no guarantee that every event of every year will bring additional content rather than simply offering another chance at unlocking the old. Personally I'm hoping they surprise us with a new game mode, but I'll be glad to see a repeat of new skins, emotes and sprays.

Mercy's Valkyrie ability has also been dialled back, as Blizzard continues to balance the fan favourite character.
