Booked for assault, Karnataka Congress MLA's son surrenders

Nalapad was sacked from his position of Bengaluru Congress Youth President and also lost his primary membership for six years. BJP and AAP who had hit the streets soon after news broke of the incident have demanded that Nalapad be booked for attempt to murder too.

Congress MLA NA Harris has been expelled from the party after he assaulted a man in Bengaluru pub.

According to reports, the victim was having dinner at a high-end restaurant in UB City when Mohammad Nalapad and his friends walked in at 11:30 pm. The scuffle occurred between the two groups when Vidwath was asked to sit properly. When Vidvat told Nalapad to mind his business, the latter, who was at the adjacent table, got angry and beat him up with his friends, Circe Inspector Vijaya Hadagalli said.

The assault reportedly began in a restaurant and continued at the hospital where the injured man was taken for treatment.

Meanwhile, a scuffle broke out between Nalapad's supporters and media personnel at the Cubbon Park police station.

Based on Praveen's complaint, Cubbon Park police registered a case against Nalapad and 10 others under sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 147 (rioting) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Nalapad, whose whereabouts were unknown for the last 36 hours, came to the police station in the city centre along with a lawyer to record his statement and seek bail when produced in a court later in the day. "His phone is switched off. Let the law take its course", the MLA said. Later, he promised to make him surrender before the Police. "Offenders should be punished to the full extent of law regardless of who they are", Siddaramaiah said.

Expressing shock over the incident, BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa tweeted "I am appalled at & strongly condemn the ghastly attack by MLA N.A. Harris's son on innocent Vidwat.@CPBlr Police must arrest the culprit and his goons to restore public confidence in rule of law". After the incident, Haris had claimed that his6 son was hiding somewhere without his knowledge.
