John Shuster delivered another Miracle on Ice for the Americans, only this one came with brooms instead of hockey sticks.

John Shuster's last throw in the eighth end of the Olympic curling final clacked off one Swedish stone and knocked it into another, sending them both skittering out of scoring range. They have five medals, including gold at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, silver at Sochi in ice dance and the team competition.

Enough with the jokes about sweeping and rocks and a bunch of beer-swilling guys playing a game better suited for a pub.

State Sen. David Tomassoni, a Chisholm Democrat, rose Monday to share a blow-by-blow account of the gold medalist curling team, led by John Shuster.

As the first-ever United States of America gold medallists in curling, the U.S. curling team was understandably excited about their success in what was a riveting match of curling against Sweden. Thanks for flying with us!'

"It wasn't a big deal at all, I promise", a smiling Shuster said. "(The Swedes) margin for error got incredibly small".

Sweden retained the last-rock advantage known as the hammer for the ninth end, and scored two.

With two stones apiece left, Swedish skip Niklas Edin pushed off with a spin and a smile, and then conceded defeat.

"My mom just wanted to come, so we came with her", said Kaitlin Traylor, 13, who was wearing two small usa flags in her hair.

"They said, 'Go to the gym, ' we went to the gym, '" Shuster said.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders also tweeted congratulations to the men's curling team. This was the first time that an American team went past the bronze medal stage at a winter games.

In the three Olympics games prior to this, Canada had taken home gold in the event. Each participating team will play 12 games during the seven-day round-robin portion, followed by a playoff round featuring the top six teams. A 5-5 tie became a 10-5 US lead. You see their faces and the joy they have over something like this that you put so much into.

When they got to South Korea, it looked like the same old story.

A week ago today, after a loss to Norway, the Americans were on the brink of elimination, again.

He wrote: "Come on @Delta I think #DeltaOne is calling our name for the gold!" "I let my wife say everything she could possibly say to talk me off ledge".

Then he found a quiet spot on a grassy knoll near the facility.

"It's just something that's so far out there in your dreams, you can't even imagine that it's true when it happens", said vice skip Tyler George. "Seriously, this is the Olympics".

He slept well that night for the first time in days.

The Americans didn't lose again.

"We have been in tough situations where our backs have been up against the wall", said Hamilton. National Football League stars Aaron Rodgers and J.J. Watt tweeted their support. "We always knew we had it in us". That's what curling embodies. Whew! Plus I really enjoyed watching the Korean women's team.
