Son fires Spurs to 2-0 win over Huddersfield

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who turned 46 on Friday, had asked his players to give him a performance and result worth celebrating and they convincingly delivered through two goals from the in-form Son.

MAURICIO POCHETTINO was clearly very satisfied with his Tottenham Hotspur side after a brace from Heung-Min Son helped them eased past Huddersfield Town in a one-sided Premier League encounter at Wembley Stadium.

Son was the star of the show as the South Korean took his tally for the season to 15 with a pair of calm finishes either side of half-time to extend Tottenham's unbeaten run in all competitions to 17 games.

Spurs, who have won their last seven games against Huddersfield in all competitions and are unbeaten in 34 league meetings with promoted teams, rarely looked troubled against a visiting side who lost the reverse fixture 4-0 in September.

Spurs last progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2011, when they also faced Italian opposition in the last 16.

Llorente suddenly exploded into life during Wednesday's 6-1 FA Cup victory over Rochdale, scoring three goals in the space of 12 minutes. Spurs put on a masterclass across the pitch.

Hugo Lloris saved well from Tom Ince on the break but Huddersfield's hopes of a point were extinguished 54 minutes in, as Son headed Kane's bouncing cross from the right beyond the static Lossl and into the net.

The Argentine boss added: "It's so important because if we want to have the possibility until the end of the season to fight for the top four, I think this result is so important today".

"So excited to have two home games", said Wagner.

Kane may have failed to score for a sixth straight game, but the England striker deserved most of the credit for Son's second, though, as his wonderful cross picked out his teammate perfectly.

Son may actually have had a chance of a hat-trick, but he was taken off just after the hour mark.

And Kane's failure to continue his scoring streak was the only negative of a comfortable afternoon for the hosts as he skewed wide when completely unmarked from an Eriksen corner 10 minutes from time.
