The leader, whose claim to the state government was contested by the incumbent chief minister will now be sworn in on March 8, a Raj Bhavan source said.

Rio said the new coalition would possibly be named the People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) and a final decision would be taken after BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma's arrival in Kohima on Monday.

The NFP has been in power in the state since 2003 except for a three-month-long break during the President's Rule in 2008. He said that two of the BJP Ministers in the Zeliang ministry yet to submit their resignations and Zeliang has counted their names as supporters. He said there was no question of the BJP going back to the NPF. Though JD (U) had a pre-poll alliance with the NPF, it has chosen to go with the NDPP-BJP combine. "The governor had asked Rio to submit letters of supporting MLAs in 48 hours".
