Posted March 10, 2018

But United also have the option to extend that for an extra year to the summer of 2020.

The Spain worldwide is keen to commit his future to United, and the club agree that De Gea should be paid much more handsomely given that he has been chosen as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League in four of the past five seasons. De Gea also informed his agent Jorge Mendes of his desire to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the 27-year-old's representatives have been pushing for an improved deal since last year. "It's always like this".

Real Madrid though, are set to come knocking again for De Gea in the summer, after a botched attempt to land the Spaniard earlier, an attempt which involved the fax machine saga. Club president Florentino Perez wants to replace Keylor Navas and having failed to convince Kepa Arrizabalaga to leave Athletic Bilbao at the end of this season has refocused on Spain's number one.

This would make United's crown jewel in defense the best paid goalkeeper in the history of the sport, and the joint-second best paid player in the Premier League, alongside Arsenal's Mesut Ozil. He then signed a new contract at Old Trafford which included a €60million exit clause in Madrid's favour applicable exclusively in June 2016.
