But the design has never been as similar as it is in the Huawei P20. Not only can it give you constructive feedback, like helping you find a horizon line on a landscape shot or steadying the camera if you're trying to shoot a moving target (like a tree branch), but it can also recognise up to 400 objects, and change the camera settings to accommodate them.
The cutbacks start with the internal specification.
Alongside the P20 Pro, Huawei also announced a cheaper P20 phone.
There's an octa-core Kirin 970 chipset and 4GB of RAM powering the Huawei P20, while the Huawei P10 has an octa-core Kirin 960 chipset and 4GB of RAM. It is IP67 certified for water and dust resistance. That's not a problem in and of itself. Both will run on Android 8.1, and while the company's Emotion UI remains, it said this and future phones will move towards a stock Android look and feel.More news: French police: Holocaust survivor killed in anti-Semitic attack
Speaking at the launch, a Huawei spokesperson revealed that the phone can "zoom into a 5x distance without any.degradation at all".
The battery is an impressive 3,400mAh, especially considering the P20 measures around 7.5mm. The P20 also has a smile release, which is possible through the sensors located in the notch.
A lot has been heard and written about the P20 lineup. In addition, the HUAWEI FullView Display maximises the display for stunning visuals, whilst the ultra-efficient battery will keep users connected and shooting for hours. It will be interesting to see how things play out when we get a handset in for proper testing.
"With the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, anyone can take professional pictures on their smartphone", said Huawei Consumer CEO Richard Yu. At the front and rear, it's clad in smooth-to-the-touch glass which is slightly curved at the edges.
The P20 and P20 Plus are also available in pink gold or a blue twilight gradient colour finish that resembles pearlescent paint found on some cars - a first, Huawei says, for a glass-backed smartphone. The differences between the phones are pronounced when it comes to the display.More news: Turkish forces begin operation against PKK in Iraqi Sinjar city
The Leica triple camera feature was touted as the first of its kind.
Light is about to become a central theme in Huawei's latest phones, where it's about what the camera does with all the light in your life. Yes, there's now a total of 19 scenes that it can detect, which is increased from the 13 with the Mate 10 Pro. The standard 40-megapixel RGB camera and 20-megapixel monochrome camera work together, just like the dual-camera pairing on the Huawei P10 - to deliver images of greater dynamic range with lower noise than would otherwise be possible with a single camera.
I'm not convinced that the ability to boost ISO sensitivity to 102,400 will produce anything but horribly grainy images, but the 960fps 720 video mode ought to be good for a laugh if nothing else. The front-facing notch houses a 20MP camera which also comes with a Bokeh mode and Face Unlock.
The P20 Pro has a 6.1-inch, 2,240-by-1,080 OLED screen and a 4,000mAh battery, but the real departure is the camera system.
Huawei have taken the wraps off its latest "P" range, showing off the P20 and P20 Pro at the event in Paris. The RGB and the Monochrome sensors don't have OIS in the literal sense but come with something called as AIS or AI-enabled stabilisation. Huawei also took advantage of the Neural Processing Unit by including several AI features.More news: EPL: Courtois reveals club he will play for next season
