Insomniac's Spider-Man gets Spectacular new details, including a release date

While my baby daughter enjoys the background screen GameInformer now has, further details will be shared, including the release date of Spider-Man. The new footage showcases a little bit of Spider-Man's street level combat mechanics against some local thugs, while also narrowing down the focus on Spider-Man's movement and traversal abilities.

Essentially while the fate of millions of New Yorkers rest upon his shoulders, Peter also has to deal with all the day-to-day stuff that we complain at length about. Throughout the game, we'll get to experience life without the suit as Peter has to balance every day life with being New York's greatest superhero.

Early in the game's story, Spider-Man defeats Wilson Fisk and after toppling the Kingpin, a new gang emerges known as the Inner Demons who are now taking over Fisk's territory.

An origin story this ain't.

You can expect plenty of action and cinematic set-pieces, but no kills. While Insomniac isn't ready to share the exact number, they did say that there are "lots of looks" available in the game.

Game Informer's Andrew Reiner was among the first to disclose the news. It's been shown off in an E3 trailer, and another one from Paris Games Week. If you haven't watched that yet, you should go check it out. The statue features Spider-Man perched on something, but the base of the statue is actually being kept secret for now. Those who pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition in the USA or Canada will also bag themselves a limited edition collectible pin (it will be mailed to them).
