Sega has confirmed that 1999's classic Shenmue is finally getting remastered, with both the original game and its sequel releasing together later this year.

YouTuber Adam Koralik released a video today with additional information about the upcoming Shenmue I & Shenmue II HD collection coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this year following a chance to check out the titles with SEGA in Japan.

The recently announced remastered collection of the first two Shenmue games will have several new features such as modern controls, the option to choose between Japanese & English voice acting and an updated user interface. The official announcement trailer is not enough to base on, either, since Sega noted at the start that "This trailer uses pre-release footage, and represents a work in progress".

This is the definitive version of these all-time classics and will be the best Shenmue experience to date. The games had a level of detail on par with current franchises such as Grand Theft Auto and Fallout.Keep in mind that they aren't complete remasters or remakes as originally rumoured.

"We've tried to stay as close to the original feature sets in each game as possible, so Shenmue 1 will not have the time skip feature", a Sega spokesperson told the VG247 website.

KitGuru Says: Shenmue is a fairly niche game, but its presence at Sony's E3 conference in 2015 got a lot of people interested in the series for the first time.
