He won the mayoral Republican Party nomination by just 17 votes, at 14,633 to 14,616, once all precincts had reported their votes.

Glenn Jacobs known in WWE as Kane, won the primaries yesterday to become the Republican candidate for mayor of Knox County in the upcoming election.

Jacobs revealed past year that he'd be up for the role, announcing in March that he'd be running for mayor of Knox County as a Republican.

It was a three-way race, with Jacobs tallying 14,633 votes to Anders' 14,616.

Jacobs supported libertarian Ron Paul in the 2008 presidential election and said he would like to see "the IRS eliminated and ... income tax ended". The general election, which also will feature Democrat Linda Haney, will take place August 2.

"A lot of people look at me and say, 'Oh, he's that wrestler guy. And I plan to really work hard and gain the trust of the people of Knox County", Haney said.

The longtime sports entertainer will now turn his attention to Democrat Linda Haney in the general election come November. Kane did not participate in WWE's "Greatest Royal Rumble" 50-man match which took place last Friday.

The ex-WWE Champion thanked the voters as well as everyone who helped him during the campaign and is determined to win the election.
