Serena Williams Tops Ashleigh Barty in 2018 French Open 2nd Round

Posted June 02, 2018

The victory comes just one day after Serena won her first grand slam match against Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic in a 7-6, 6-4 first-round victory, 14 months after giving birth.

After all, the former world number one had not played a major tournament since winning the 2017 Australian Open, having given birth to her daughter in September.

"I feel like a warrior in it, like a warrior princess or Queen from Wakanda maybe", she added.

"It was comfortable to wear". I'm always living in a fantasy world.

"For me, that was kind of like a positive thing, because it wasn't like I was playing the ultimate match".

However, the American is seemingly making life more hard for herself by playing in the doubles with sister Venus on what should be her days off.

"I thought there would be a lot of reactions over the outfit", she said. "So it is definitely a little functionality to it", Williams said.

"It's a fun suit, but it's also functional so I can be able to play without any problems".

"You know I also felt the pleasure in the past, but I couldn't show it, so now I relax myself".

Williams battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the tie-break to take the first set. In the victory, Pliskova won 74 percent of her first serve points and 37 percent of her second serve points.

Serena Williams has caused a stir with her attire at the French Open.

Tennis star Serena Williams has declared that she is an honorary Armenian as she is married to Alexis Ohanian, an entrepreneur and the co-founder of Reddit, who is of Armenian origin.

"If I wasn't playing tennis, I'd be pregnant right now - sorry, I'm one of those women", she said. "It probably wasn't the best tennis out there but I'm happy that I managed to fight and to win".

The American, who is competing in her first Grand Slam since returning from maternity leave, looked to be heading for an early exit after Barty took the first set 6-3 with a single break.

Williams has always been a thoroughbred front-runner and she served her way into the third round as the sky darkened and the Mexican waves flowed around Philippe Chatrier.
