Neymar scores in return; Brazil tops Croatia

The 26-year-old had surgery in Brazil amid fears he wouldn't be fit for the World Cup.

As said by Brazilian Brazil coach Tite, Neymar made a second-half appearance against Croatia in the worldwide friendly at Anfield on Sunday evening (June 3) and 24 minutes after coming off the bench, he found the back of the net with a stunning solo goal.

Neymar had replaced midfielder Fernandinho at halftime with the score at 0-0.

Neymar ran behind the goal, in front of Anfield's legendary Kop end, and punched the air in delight as he was mobbed by team-mates.

Liverpool's Roberto Firmino wrapped the game up with a 93rd minute goal.

It took him just 21 minutes to make a stunning impression with a breathtaking individual goal to break the deadlock, before Liverpool favourite Roberto Firmino completed a 2-0 win in injury time.

The five-times world champions have one more friendly before the tournament, against Austria in Vienna on 10 June.

And when Neymar gave Brazil the lead midway through the second-half, Croatia's attacking players did not have the game-changing quality they required to get back into the game.

"I think he is looking forward to going back to Anfield, to Liverpool", the Brazilian said at a press conference.

Despite the looming spectre of the World Cup, now less than two weeks away, the game proved a physical one.

Brazil instantly appeared more threatening, with the PSG man linking up quickly with Jesus.

Defender Dejan Lovren had the best chance to open with a header that grazed Brazil goalkeeper Alisson's right post after a corner.
