According to the Kansas Lottery, Friday night's Mega Millions drawing kicks off the weekend with a jackpot worth an estimated $422 million, including a cash option of $254.8 million. This is the seventh time the jackpot has exceeded $400 million and it is the sixth-largest prize in the game's history.
Tickets must be purchased by 10 p.m. ET on Tuesday to be eligible for that night's 11 p.m. ET drawing. The second-highest jackpot of $648 million went to two winners in California and one in Georgia on December 17, 2013. The cash option for the jackpot is $260 million. Before it was announced that someone won the $521 million jackpot in late March, it actually took all night and an official announcement wasn't made until the next morning.

Twenty-two jackpots have been won in the month of July since the game began in 2002.
