5 killed in CA when plane crashes into parking lot

The plane was en route to nearby John Wayne Airport when the pilot declared an emergency and crashed around 12:30 pm local time in Santa Ana, near the South Coast Plaza shopping mall, the authorities said. "Unfortunately, it was tragic that five people died on the plane". The Orange County coroner's office released the names of Navid Hakami, 32, of Los Angeles; and Bay Area residents Scott Shepherd, 53; Lara Shepherd, 42; Floria Hakami, 62; and Nasim Ghanadan, 29.

The plane hit a vehicle, but the driver was shopping inside Staples when the plane went down, according to O.C. Fire Authority.

The plane also hit a auto (pictured), but no one was reported injured.

The aircraft had departed from northern California earlier in the day and departed Orange County after a stop.

The plane is registered to a San Francisco-based real estate consulting company, Category III, according to an FAA database.

The plane took off from Buchanan Field Airport in Concord, California, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Plane's final moments caught on auto dashcam outside of John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana.

No one on the ground was hurt and there were no other passengers in the plane.

"We looked up to see the plane falling nose first", Ella Pham, 20, of Santa Ana, said Sunday.

The FAA launched an investigation into the crash, and added that the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause.
