City back in the groove as Aguero ruins Sarri’s Chelsea bow

Pep Guardiola has revealed that fear of failure has been the driving force behind his spectacular success at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and now Manchester City as he prepares for the new soccer campaign. In the Premier League there are a huge amount of games and everybody will be involved.

Despite the tight turnaround after the World Cup, Manchester City's attacking ruthlessness has not been blunted by fatigue or the English heatwave.

While Agüero hogged the Wembley spotlight, there was also an eye-catching display from Phil Foden.

Claudio Bravo gets the nod in goal, Sergio Aguero a spot up front and Fernandinho will captain the side.

If Guardiola needs to make changes then he can look to his bench, where his options include Gabriel Jesus and Vincent Kompany.

"The performance of Bernardo Silva was a masterpiece", the City boss said.

Sergio Agüero's early opener and a second-half strike from the Argentina forward - goals that took his career haul for City to 201 - ensured the title favourites picked up where they left off in last season's record-breaking campaign.

"We were really impressed when he arrived", Guardiola added of Aguero.

This may be a club that has managed win trophies despite their lack of managerial stability during the Abramovich era, yet the blackened clouds of uncertainly gathering at Chelsea appear to be the most threatening yet with just four days left of the summer transfer window.

New York City are the only team exempt from the deal due to Major League Soccer's (MLS) league-wide contract with Adidas, which prevents clubs from signing their own kit supplier.

"We were not in control of the match".

"For us, it's logical that the teams that will come against us will play against the defending champions, they will want to win anyhow and they will be more motivated to beat us".

"So, I think it's a long way we have to work".

"Maybe we will need some time for this idea to become natural for the players, but we are working on it in training and the response so far has been good".
