Trump vows to yank security clearance for DOJ's Bruce Ohr

Trump has indicated he also was considering revoking security clearances for other critics, including Clapper and Hayden, former national security adviser Susan E. Rice, former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James B. Comey, former Federal Bureau of Investigation officials Andrew McCabe, Lisa Page and Peter Strzok, former deputy attorney general Sally Yates and Ohr.

President Donald Trump brushed off criticism from retired Adm. William McRaven Friday on the lifting of security clearances of administration opponents.

Signaling that his efforts to target clearances over his frustration with the Russian Federation investigation were not over, Trump tweeted that it was a "disgrace" for Bruce Ohr to be in the Justice Department. Trump said, nevertheless, that Mueller should be allowed to finish a report on Russia's interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

The extreme action of revoking security clearances is one more instance of Donald Trump undertaking measures that no other president has done, leaving legal analysts in question about whether the action is actually within his authority.

The letter, released Thursday, defends Brennan, whose security clearance was revoked in what critics say was retribution for speaking out against Trump.

That directly contradicted a July 2017 statement from Trump Jr. - written with the consultation of the White House - that claimed the meeting had been primarily about adoption. Ohr had a role in the investigation into Russia's attacks on the 2016 USA elections, which Trump has called a 'rigged witch hunt, ' and Trump has threatened revoking security clearances for numerous highly-positioned officials involved in that investigation.

The president's comments were a swift departure from the official explanation given by the White House earlier Wednesday that cited the "the risks" posed by Brennan's alleged "erratic conduct and behavior".

But Republicans, including some who've been critical of Mr. Trump, said Mr. Brennan has crossed lines with his vicious criticism of the new president. "But let him write his report". Trump says he is reviewing security clearances for nine other individuals, including the eight pictured.
