As expected, Alabama will be No. 1 to begin the year in the preseason poll, which the AP released Monday.
A day shy of two weeks before the Hurricanes' blockbuster season opener September 2 against LSU, the AP's ranking cemented UM as a top-10 preseason team in both major polls for the first time since 2005.

The defending champions once again will start the 2018 season on the top line of the Associated Press Top 25 - but the Big Ten has more teams at the top than any other conference.
The difference between the two teams is the one first-place vote for the Badgers.
Alabama is No. 1, followed by Clemson, Georgia, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Washington. Last year, the Bulldogs won nine games, the third time they've done that in four years, and finished the season as the 19th ranked team in the AP Poll last year. The Knights remained in the top 25 poll for 11 consecutive weeks, finishing with a program-best No. 6 ranking at the end of the season.
