Douglas Costa elbows, headbutts, spits at Sassuolo player before red card

Juventus forward Douglas Costa has apologised after being sent off for spitting in the face of Sassuolo's Federico Di Francesco in a 2-1 Serie A win in Turin on Sunday (Sept 16).

It might not be much but Ronaldo has finally found his mark!

"I would like to apologise to all Juventus fans for this misleading reaction in today's game".

"I'm very happy, I thank my team-mates for helping me to adapt to the league. I make it clear that this isolated attitude does not correspond to what I have always shown in my career".

Ronaldo's first Serie A goal came in fortunate fashion, but lifted a huge burden off the former Real Madrid man's shoulders.

"This is football. The important thing is that the team wins".

Sassuolo, who caused Juventus trouble all afternoon, were then caught on the break, with Emre Can sliding the ball to Ronaldo to drill an angled left-foot shot into the far corner.

Ronaldo's last act for Real was lifting the Champions League trophy in Kiev after beating Liverpool 3-1 in the final before he dropped the bombshell in a pitch-side interview that he had chose to leave Madrid.

"Our first objectives are to qualify from our Champions League group and lead the way in the league in order to be fighting on all fronts come March".

He then joined Argentina on a quick tour of the United States, where he was expected to get at least one start, but had to be content with a second-half substitute's appearance in the second match against Colombia.

"He hasn't played because I made some technical choices", Allegri said.

Sassuolo pulled a goal back in the last few minutes.

"He keeps the ball and helps the team move up", said coach Gennaro Gattuso, adding: "We played an embarrassing first 20 minutes".

Roma are ninth with five points from four games - already seven points adrift of Juventus - and also behind city rivals Lazio who won at Empoli with Marco Parolo scoring the only goal.
