Kim Jong Un wants 2nd meeting with Donald Trump, South Korea says

North Korea acted like a pariah under Kim's father and grandfather, and in turn was treated like a pariah.

This was well received by President Trump, but it is a small step towards the goal of denuclearisation.

On the final day of the summit, Moon and Kim took a symbolic step toward peace, traveling outside the capital to visit Mount Paektu - a famous and revered volcano that's also the highest point on the Korean Peninsula, situated along North Korea's border with China.

"Moon said that he and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had agreed to measures that would completely eliminate the fear of war and the risk of armed conflicts on the Korean Peninsula".

Paektu is claimed to be the birthplace of Dangun, legendary...

He has shared food, wine and laughs with South Korean officials and seemed thoroughly at his ease during a highly choreographed June summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Singapore. Moon's office says North Korean workers made a mistake. The Blue House tried to distance itself from any controversy Moon could possibly face upon his arrival back home, stressing that Mount Paektu was a "spiritual mountain" for both countries. South Korea's tactic of using the time provided by conventional deterrence to nudge North Korea toward keeping its denuclearization promises is the only viable course, and one trigger-happy politicians in Washington must not disrupt. Until then, maybe we should take Moon's relay system with at least a small grain of salt.

"But it is no closer to North Korean disarmament", he said.
The two Korean leaders inspected a 200-member honor guard. Kim Jong-un and his wife traveled in a separate vehicle. The leaders rode together in a cable auto to reach the lake.

"The South and North agreed to actively participate jointly in global competitions including the 2020 Summer Olympics and to cooperate in bidding for the South-North joint hosting of the 2032 Summer Olympics", the statement said.

South Korea doesn't have a huge state guesthouse like Pyongyang's Paekhwawon, where Moon stayed this week.

Weather permitting, Moon and Kim will visit the crater lake on top of Mt. Baekdu by cable auto.

"The most tangible progress here in terms of improving the situation on the Korean Peninsula is the ... multiple-page military agreement that was signed by both sides that ... outlines a significant number of steps to try to reduce ... military tensions at the DMZ, which I think is a good step", Fuchs said.

The two leaders took a plane at around 7:30 a.m. from Sunan International Airport in Pyongyang to arrive at Samjiyon near Mt. Beakdu some 390 km away an hour later.

They are to be taken to the peak by bus and tracked vehicle.

Moon plans to return to South Korea later on Thursday. "Chairman Kim and I will rebuild our nation, with 80 million people of the North and South holding hand in hand, standing strong". North Korea has been demanding a declaration formally ending the Korean War, which was stopped in 1953 by a cease-fire, but neither leader mentioned it Wednesday as they read the joint statement. Each family will be given 500 grams (1.1 pounds).

"If the weather is bad, the two leaders may only go halfway up", the spokesman said.

Asked why this detail was not in the document signed by Moon and Kim, Nauert replied: "We have had conversations. with the government of North Korea and that is our mutual understanding; that is also the understanding between (South) Korea and North Korea".

On Wednesday evening, the leaders and their wives had dinner at a seafood restaurant in Pyongyang. Around 150,000 North Korean spectators were in the stands.

"North Korea had already dismantled its Punggye-ri nuclear tests sites", Moon told reporters at Seoul Press Centre.
