Cold and brisk temps for your Thanksgiving weekend

Burlington, Vermont, Albany, New York, and Providence, Rhode Island may also see record lows on the holiday, according to The Weather Channel.

If relatives and friends from out of town suddenly show up at your door, it's probably because this could be the coldest Thanksgiving period on record for the Northeast.

"It's going to be brutal out there", said Accuweather senior meteorologist Dave Dombek. The arctic air brought New Yorkers a brief coating of snow as well. A steady 10 miles per hour breeze from the north is forecast to make it feel like the 20s, though skies will be mostly sunny.

Snow squalls are now moving across New York State and will enter the Berkshires around mid-afternoon.

Thursday night will be mostly clear and blustery, with lows in the teens, and some locations may set new records for cold temperatures on Thanksgiving, the weather service said.

Thanksgiving should be dry for much, if not all, of the Midwest. High temperatures will be in the 30s.

In the West, the National Weather Service is advising drivers to plan extra time into their trips as a storm off the coast of California will delay travel starting Wednesday. The last several years have been relatively mild and closer to normal.

Call 311 or log on to NYC.gov if you have heating complaints. This year, with a current high of 26 degrees projected for Thursday, the city is potentially on track to beat that 117-year-old record. The majority of the snow will fall in the high Sierra but roads will be impacted at pass level as well.
