Ultimately, Fields made a decision to take his talents to Ohio State.

Ohio State is getting a new quarterback as Justin Fields is expected to transfer from Georgia, USA TODAY Sports reported Friday. This past October, a Georgia baseball player was kicked off the team for using racial slurs geared towards Fields. "I appreciate what Coach Smart and the UGA football coaching staff gave done to help me progress as a quarterback and for their patience and understanding while I thoughtfully considered my future as a student-athlete", Fields said in a statement.

The quarterback announced Monday he intends to apply for entry into the 2019 NFL Draft.

It's never easy to replace a coaching legend but Ohio State's Ryan Day is stepping into a good situation which appears to be getting even sweeter by the day.

If declared eligible, Fields would compete to become Ohio State's starting quarterback in 2019 if Dwayne Haskins declares for the NFL Draft as expected.

Haskins' day was filled with dizzying statistics, including his six touchdown passes almost matching the seven total MI had yielded all season. Fields completed 27 of 39 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions and rushed 42 times for 266 yards and four more scores. Day has been with the program as a quarterback coach and offensive coordinator since 2017. Jacob Eason, a 5-star from the 2016 recruiting cycle, transferred to Washington after Fromm won the starting job and led Georgia to a national title appearance in 2017.

NCAA rules would require Fields to sit out next season if he transfers, though he could request a waiver to become immediately eligible.
