Kyrie Irving's interest in reuniting with LeBron James is 'for real'

After missing 17 straight games due to a groin strain he suffered, coincidentally, against the Warriors during their Christmas Day matchup, LeBron made a surprise return on Thursday night.

The Lakers went 6-11 during James' absence and fell out of a potential playoff spot.

"I'm not there all the way, as far as physically", James added.

Lance Stephenson added 20 points, Brandon Ingram added 19 points, and Rajon Rondo had 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Lakers, who were officially the visiting team but had strong crowd support Thursday because they share the Staples Center arena with their city rivals.

According to Bucher, Irving is "genuinely" interested in playing with James in Los Angeles.

"He looked good", said Tobias Harris, who guarded James much of the game. James is the leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game, where he will captain the Western Conference team. He's got tomorrow off, flight Monday and we'll see how the IN game goes and then how he feels the next day. I think, though, at this point, the more likely outcome is that the Lakers escape a hard 1st round in seven games and then go on to lose in the 2nd round.

But fear not: James has returned.

As of now, it doesn't seem like Jaylen Brown would cut it in terms of the Pelicans getting back what it expects in trading away an MVP caliber player. He spent only 3.9 percent of the time overall running fast, his second-lowest percentage in a game this season.

While it now seems unlikely, there's an actual chance that the trio of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving could all possibly be donning the famous Purple and Gold in Los Angeles for the 2019-20 season, something which would immediately make the Lakers as a Western Conference powerhouse and quite possibly the favorite to win the National Basketball Association title.

"It's a possibility, but a lot of it will be dependent on how he's feeling and what the schedule is like at those times", Walton said.

Meanwhile, the Warriors welcomed back shooting guard Klay Thompson on Saturday, and he scored a game-high 28 points.
