Patrick Mahomes' girlfriend celebrates Chiefs QB's MVP honors

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes headlined the NFL Honors award show by taking home 2018 AP NFL MVP honors on Saturday in Atlanta.

Mahomes nearly got his side to the showpiece event, only for the Chiefs to lose to the Patriots in overtime.

New England prevailed in that game, but the Legend of Mahomes is such that anything short of a Super Bowl appearance will be considered a disappointment in his first year as starter. Kansas City has some holes, especially on defense, that they'll need to fill if they want to get back in the same position they were in this year.

Mahomes had 50 touchdowns for 5,097 yards and 12 interceptions on the season.

"I'm so humbled", Mahomes said. "We've got a long ways to go". New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees earned the other nine votes.

Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald was named the 2018 AP Defensive Player of the Year.

Donald registered a league- and career-high 20 1/2 sacks this season and 41 quarterback hits.

Nagy was the runaway victor for Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to a 12-4 record and the NFC North division title in his debut season.

Luck, too, was an easy victor for Comeback Player of the Year. Barkley's 91 catches were the more than any rookie running back in National Football League history.

Described by some as a "generational running back", Barkley rushed for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns behind a weak NY offensive line.

"You're way more than an MVP to me".
