The $35,000 Tesla Model 3 is finally here - Tech

Tesla is so sure its electric vehicles will meet expectations - the Model 3 has after all has been named the auto that "brings the most joy" - that it says customers purchasing online will be also able to to return the auto within 7 days for a full refund. By building only more expensive versions for more than a year, Tesla made sure that customers waiting for the base model now see exactly what they'd be missing out on, rather than being excited about the vehicle being available within their budget.

Thursday was the third time this year that Tesla lowered the price on the Model 3, which recently started at $42,900. For $35,000-before any federal or local tax incentives-you can now order a rear-wheel drive Model 3 Standard Range.

The Standard Range Plus, which will cost $37,000 (£28,000), features 240 miles of range, a 140mph top speed, and a 0-60mph time of 5.3secs. That's what you'll get for $35,000.

But the company said Thursday that the standard Model 3, which will have a range of 220 miles, was now available for order. Unless ultimate penny pinching is of the utmost importance to you, the $2,000 seems like money well spent.

The Tesla Mid-Range Premium Interior Model 3 comes in at $54,300 and has a 425km range. In fact, CEO Elon Musk said the interior is nicer than intended with lots of wrapped parts.

Musk says he's certain that Tesla will be feature-complete for FSD later this year, but "the driver will still have to pay attention, because the reliability issue will take longer to address. and we'll need regulators to agree that a driver's attention is no longer necessary".

He said shifting to an online sales model, cutting jobs and reducing spending on marketing will allow Tesla to offer the lower vehicle price.
