Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke calls Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu a "racist"

"Come on. Honestly", Netanyahu said, making the case as he has throughout the campaign that he is Israel's essential statesman.

Netanyahu completely rejected the idea of a Palestinian state by stating that "it will endanger our existence".

"The US-Israel relationship is one of the most important relationships we have on the planet".

Let's stipulate that Netanyahu's association with a far-right racist party is abhorrent (as American Jewish organizations have said), that his annexation of the Golan Heights only encourages other states to claim sovereignty over land won in war and that his political promise to annex the West Bank is inimical to a two-state solution and contrary to USA policy.

He has a hard-line position on the Palestinians and wants to encourage them to emigrate from the occupied West Bank and Gaza.

Mr Netanyahu pledged on Saturday to annex settlements in the occupied West Bank if he wins the upcoming general election.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has told press that the administration is not interested in interfering in Israeli elections, but for Israeli voters it's hard to avoid the Trump-Netanyahu friendship.

Malki accused the USA of encouraging Netanyahu by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and more recently, recognizing Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights.

If he wins, Netanyahu would become the longest-serving prime minister in Israeli history.

He went on to endorse a two-state solution in order to broker peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Palestinians and many countries consider settlements to be illegal under the Geneva conventions that bar settling on land captured in war.

Israel has held the West Bank since capturing it from Jordan in 1967 but despite allowing hundreds of thousands of Israelis to settle there, it has never extended its sovereignty beyond the municipal boundaries of Jerusalem.

The population in Israeli settlements number just over 400,000 Israeli Jews. "Israel needs to choose a direction of unification, connection and hope or of extremity".

In 2017 Mr Trump announced that the U.S. recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital, overturning decades of official USA policy.

In March, Trump broke with decades of global consensus by recognising Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, territory Israel captured from Syria.

During recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and the Israeli sovereignty in Syrian Golan Heights, the US took the lead, he said, adding the U.S.'s steps did not comply with the United Nations resolutions.

Meanwhile, Erdoğan also said the recent municipal election was nearly completely marred by irregularities and that they have found traces of organized crime.

It would mark a dramatic shift for Netanyahu, ahead of Tuesday's balloting.

When asked why he had not already annexed some of the larger settlements, Mr Netanyahu said: "Who says that we won't do it?"
